‘Fave Five’ Beauty Products for a Flawless Summer

As Summer approaches the list of things we do in order to prepare gets longer. I am a huge product junkie who has accumulated tons of products throughout the years in search of the best ones that give me exactly what I want. Whenever I find one that exceeds my expectations I stick with it. This inspired me to put a top five list together of my favorite budget savvy products that help me get Fab for the summer with minimal effort.

Nair Shower Power is first on the list because it’s a fabulous product that has saved me time, money and effort. I’ve never been a fan of waxing and up until last year it has always been a necessary evil for me when I go on vacations. The painful process combined with the ingrown hairs I get afterwards made me dread walking into the salon to get my usual legs and bikini wax services done. This has been my go-to hair removal method because I heard the laser hair removal process requires multiple treatments and I just don’t have time for that.

I have used Nair in the past and my experience was not a pleasant one because of my sensitive skin issues. The burning and itching sensation I experienced after using their hair removal products scared me away from the brand all together. I finally decided to go to my local CVS pharmacy and give them another try because of how fed up I was with my other options. I liked the sound of the Moroccan Argan Oil so I decided to forego the usual “sensitive skin” brand and give it a try.

I did a patch test first on an area of my leg and was pleasantly surprised that it didn’t irritate my skin at all. The directions say to leave it on for a minimal of two minutes, so I added three to that because my hair is coarse and thick. Since my patch test went so well I decided to try it on my underarm hair and bikini area. Outside of the shower I dispensed the cream to the smooth side of the dual sided sponge that is included, and applied a thick layer to each area. I then left it on for three minutes before entering the shower. I kept these areas away from direct streams of water for another two minutes before using the bumpy side of the sponge to wipe it off.

I didn’t experience any kind of irritation, not even on my bikini area. My skin was so smooth, it felt like I had just gotten waxed. My excitement over this product cannot be adequately expressed in this post, but trust me when I tell you it is a MUST-TRY. Waxing results usually last me two weeks, shaving only lasts a couple of days and this cream lasted about five days so it’s a happy ‘painless’ medium for me. I also don’t experience painful, annoying ingrown hairs on my legs and bikini area with this cream like I do with waxing.

If you dread waxing and shaving like I do then you’ll definitely want to give this stuff a try. They have four different kinds and I haven’t tried them all but I definitely plan on it. For those of you who enjoy how-to videos, Nair has created their own:

Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balms come in a variety of colors and are sooo moisturizing. My lips get very dry and will chap and peel daily if I don’t keep them moisturized. I am a big fan of lipsticks and glosses and have the vanity drawer to prove it, but I need a little moisture balance in between glam applications. The only change I would make to these awesome lip chappies is adding in some SPF protection.

My favorite color so far is ‘Red Dahlia’, the color compliments my skin tone and has a darker tint that I can wear alone like a gloss when I want to.

They have pretty shades for every skin tone and I’m definitely going to try a few more this summer.

neutrogena sunscreen

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Body Mist Sunscreen is glam-tastic. It’s light, non-greasy, and comes in a wide range of protection from SPF 45+ to 100+.

We love the sun and we need it, but it can do a number on our skin if we don’t protect it and every skin type is prone to sun damage. I tried many brands before discovering this one and I’ve been loyal ever since.

I’ve always been a bit of a hypochondriac and put my poor mom through plenty of unnecessary doctor visits as a child. I purchase the 100+ because it quells my fears and makes me feel more protected when I lay out and bask in the sunshine during the Summer.

It also sprays on evenly and has a nice light fragrance. It gives my skin a dewey Summer glow and lasts longer than a lot of brands so I don’t have to keep re-applying every 30 minutes.

bug guard plus

Avon Skin-So-Soft Bug Guard Plus is another must-have for people like myself who are mosquito magnets. I had the worse experience during my Weddingmoon in Saint Lucia. I had just showered and decided to take a nap in the buff with the balcony door open so I could take in the fresh ocean air…biggest mistake ever. My Husband took one look at me when he woke up and jumped off of the bed because I was covered from head to toe in bites. He looked up and spotted a few satiated mosquitos on the hotel wall and started smashing them while I watched in horror as they turned into big bloody splats. Our room had turned into a crime scene and I went home a week later with an infected bite that my doctor had to prescribe steroids for.

After that I went online to do some extensive research on the brands with the best reviews and came upon this one. I gave it a test run during my birthday trip to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic last year. I applied this lightweight spray to my exposed skin in the morning and before I headed out at night and only got bit once during the whole 6 day stay in a neck area that I had missed.

This spray has exceeded my expectations and I stock up on it months before Summer arrives. It has a pleasant fragrance, Vitamin E and is safe to use on the kiddos as well.

bare minerals tinted cream

shade-line-up

Bare Minerals complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream is a gem because it’s a light weight cream formulated with sunscreen, toning and hydrating minerals. A little bit goes a long way too, so you’ll definitely get your money’s worth. I love rocking light natural make-up especially in the Summer and this cream gives me both coverage and a nice glow. Not only does it hydrate dry skin, it also has SPF 30 protection. It’s the perfect summer BB cream/tinted moisturizer that goes on smoothly and won’t melt down your face while you getting your tan on.

My skin has yellow and red undertones and gets darker in the Summer, my perfect match for this season is their Chestnut (09) shade. For all the other seasons I get my perfect match by mixing two shades- Spice and Chestnut. They’ve definitely done their research and have created shades that cover the spectrum and just released new ones, so now it’s even easier to find your perfect match.

For women like myself who change shades depending on the season I recommend going into your local Sephora or ULTA Beauty Store in order to test the colors out in case you need to mix two colors to create your perfect match.
